The M50 northbound has been shut down following a horror smash earlier this morning involving a motorbike and a truck.

It is understood that the collision has forced the closure of the road at the Cherrywood exit and the M11 merge, junctions 16 and 17, respectively.

The road is expected to be closed until at least 4pm today and a Garda forensic team are now at the scene of the accident.

Diversions are in place, with traffic backed up as far as Bray and Gardaí are advising motorists to avoid the M11 if possible.

Gardaí are also advising motorists who are waiting in the traffic to remain in their vehicles, as they are trying to divert traffic away from the area.
