Lucinda Creighton calls for screening of refugees entering the country

The Renua Ireland leader Lucinda Creighton has called for the screening of refugees coming into Ireland, after a poll showed that 60% of people think terrorists could be coming with them.

The Millward Brown/Sunday Independent poll also showed that only about 1 in 10 of us thinks that Ireland could deal with a Paris-style attack.

46% of us think there could be an attack here, with 50% believing that Jihadist terrorists are already based in Ireland.

Creighton has said that we need to screen the some 4,000 refugees we have agreed to take in.

“I don’t think it’s xenophobic or unreasonable to say that there should be screening,” said Creighton.

“There should be a process and mechanism in place to insure that refugees are really refugees and not just economic migrants, and there has to be a mix, obviously there’s a mix.

“In a sense there has been an attempt to silence anybody who questions the kind of complete open-door policy. I think it has to be open-door but it has to involve screening.
