Luas works set to disrupt Dublin traffic

Motorists in Dublin city centre can expect some disruption when the first major roadworks to link up the Luas lines start this week.

Traffic from St Stephen's Green to Parnell Street will be restricted, and some footpaths will be closed to allow gas, electricity and water pipes to be taken out of the way of the tram route.

Some taxi ranks will also be moved as a result.

Arwyn Foley from AA Roadwatch outlined the roads affected.

"We're seeing works now on St Stephen's Green North, that's the side The Shelbourne [Hotel] is on, also Grafton St Lower at College Green, Hawkins Street, Westmoreland Street, O'Connell Street, Parnell Street at the Marlborough Street junction," she said.

"So as you can imagine with any set of works you can expect a certain amount of delays, as motorists get used to the new road layouts."
