Lord Mayor: Dublin not prepared for overnight floods

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has said the city was not prepared for the heavy downpours overnight which led to flooding acroos much of the northside this morning.

Christy Burke said thousands of sandbags were required to contain the excess water, but that they were not made available.

His comments came as Dublin City Council's flood risk assessment group meets this afternoon to discuss the fallout.

85mm of rain fell in some parts of the city overnight, with Ballymun worst affected.
