Lisbon legislation passes all stages in Oireachtas
10/07/2009 - 08:02:37The legislation paving the way for a re-run of the Lisbon Treaty referendum this autumn passed all stages in the Dáil and the Seanad last night.
The vote on the 28th Amendment to the Constitution will be held on Friday, October 2.
The Government says recent legal guarantees agreed by EU heads of state, as well as a decision that all member states will continue to appoint one European Commissioner, have created a justifiable context for running a second referendum.
Lisbon opponents, however, say the treaty itself has not changed.
All of the main political parties will be campaigning for a 'yes' vote.
