Limerick cousins convicted of double murder

Criminal Courts Of Justice

Two cousins have been convicted of the murder of a man and a woman who were shot in a house in Limerick last year.

It took the jury an hour to find Patrick O'Brien of Glanntan, Golflinks Road, Castletroy, and Thomas Stewart of The Cedars, Briarfield, Castletroy, Limerick guilty of killing Desmond Kelly and Breda Waters in a house in O'Malley Park on January 9, 2011.

There were loud sobs and members of the victims family could be heard saying ''Thank You'' and ''Yes!'' as the verdicts were handed down.

The accused, aged 29 and 33 respectively, are each to serve two life sentences which will run concurrently.
