A panel of legal experts is to be set up to examine allegations of Garda malpractice received by politicians.
The group of senior legal counsel will be chosen by the Attorney General and examine the flood of complaints received by politicians in recent weeks.
The group will then make recommendations to the Minister for Justice on how each compliant should be responded to.
The move was decided at today's cabinet meeting, which also approved legislation to overhaul the role of the Garda Ombudsman.
