Leech claims solicitors more interested in fees than case, court hears

Monica Leech.
The High Court has heard that Public Relations consultant Monica Leech's relationship with her solicitors broke down in the wake of her €1.87m libel pay out from the Evening Herald.
McCann Fitzgerald's lawyers have said Ms Leech's position up until now is that she can not afford to pay for their services.
Ms Leech said she does have the means to pay McCann Fitzgerald, but apparently believes the firm is more interested in their fees than the outcome of her case.
The solicitors represented her in 2009 when she was awarded €1.87m from a series of libellous articles in the Herald about her connections to former Minister Martin Cullen.
The size of the award is being challenged but €750,000 was paid out at the time plus €100,000 legal costs.
On affidavit, Monica Leech said the most difficult part of the proceedings was dealing with her solicitors afterwards who she claimed wanted more money and would not provide a proper bill.
High Court President Nicholas Kearns has today agreed to allow McCann Fitzgerald come off record and stop representing Ms Leech.
In exchange she has given an undertaking to the court to pay her legal fees.
