A man has died in workplace incident in Cork.
It is understood he was working on a farm in Coachford near Macroom when a trench caved in.
The remains of the man have been removed to Cork University Hospital.
It is understood that he was involved in the excavation of a deep drainage trench in a recently excavated and contoured field, and was in the bottom of the trench when the walls suddenly collapsed on top of him.
The trench was approximately 3-4 metres deep.
Work colleagues tried frantically to free him but such was the volume of material which collapsed, they were unable to reach him in time.
Investigations are underway.

The Munster Regional Communications Centre confirmed emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10.10am this morning after the alarm was raised.
Fire crews from Ballincollig and Macroom are in attendance.
A spokesperson form the Health and Safety Authority confirmed that a serious accident had taken place and emergency workers are trying to recover the man.
"We have been made aware of an accident in Coachford in Co. Cork. A man was working in a trench when it collapsed on him.
"Emergency services are on the scene and are trying to recover the man. An investigation will begin soon."
