Gardaí are appealing to farmers and landowners in Offaly to check their fields or hedges for clothing that may have been discarded after an aggravated burglary early this morning.
The incident happened at around 2am when a gang forced their way into a farmhouse at Brosna near Bir, and assaulted and locked the owner in a shed, before leaving with a small sum of money.
The man in his 50's managed to escape and raise the alarm before being taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
It is understood this is the second time the farmhouse was targeted by thieves in the past six weeks.

Intruders broke into the farmhouse at around 2am - they escaped with a small amount of cash while the victim walked to a neighbour's house to raise the alarm.
He was brought to Tullamore Hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí.
