Update 10.09pm: Family and close friends of Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan have accompanied her to her home town church in Co Limerick ahead of her funeral.

Candles lit the streets as her coffin was brought to the Church of Saint Ailbe in Ballybricken.

Two hearses, one carrying her coffin and another carrying floral tributes, arrived at the church shortly before 9.30pm.

Among the many wreaths was one from pop group The Corrs.

Earlier, hundreds of people had gathered outside Cross's Funeral Home in Ballyneety where her remains were in repose.

Irish President Michael D Higgins paid his sympathies to the singer's family and signed a book of condolence.

"It was very important to pay tribute to the contribution Dolores made," said Mr Higgins.

"It is so moving, so profoundly sad that somebody so young is taken from us.

"She was a star that shone bright from the very beginning," he added.

The funeral mass is to take place on Tuesday at 11.30am.

Canon Liam McNamara, the Associate Pastor and a close friend of the O'Riordan family, will act as the Chief Celebrant of the Requiem Mass.

Father James Walton will be the chief co-celebrant, alongside Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly and Archbishop Dermot Clifford, the Archbishop Emeritus of Cashel and Emly.

The funeral mass will be broadcast live by Limerick's local radio station, Live 95FM.

Tuesday's service will be followed by a private family burial.

O'Riordan was found dead in a London hotel on Monday.

The 46-year-old - who was also a member of alternative rock group D.A.R.K - had been working on a new studio album with The Cranberries in the months before her death and was expected to discuss its scheduled release with record label BMG while in England.

A number of tests have been carried out to establish the cause of the musician's death, an inquest heard on Friday before it was adjourned until April 3.

Sales and streams of the band's back catalogue have rocketed by 1,000% in the days since her death.

Greatest hits collection Stars: The Best Of 1992-2002 landed at number 16 on the albums chart this week, a higher position than its previous peak of number 20 when it was released in 2002.

The singer was renowned for her distinctive voice and the band enjoyed huge success in the 1990s with tracks including Zombie and Linger.

President Michael D Higgins says he wanted to pay tribute to Dolores O'Riordan and the importance of her music. 

He's attending her removal in Ballyneety, Limerick this evening. 

Her funeral will take place tomorrow at St Ailbe’s Church in Ballybricken followed by a private family burial. 

President Higgins says she was “a star who shone brightly”.

“I think it was very important to pay tribute to the contribution that Dolores made,” said President Higgins.

“I also wanted to meet her mother Eileen and that fabulous huge family of nephews and nieces that she had, and were very important to her.”

Update 3.40pm: Dolores O’Riordan’s funeral Mass to be broadcast live on Limerick radio

Limerick local radio station Live 95FM will broadcast the funeral Mass of Dolores O’Riordan live.

The service will be held at 11.30am tomorrow for the Cranberries lead singer.

Update 3.07pm: President Michael D Higgins is expected to meet the family of Dolores O’Riordan ahead of the rock star’s removal service in Ballyneety, Co Limerick this evening, writes David Raleigh.

A major garda traffic management plan is being prepared around Ballyneety village, Co Limerick, ahead of the removal service this afternoon of Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan, who died suddenly last week.

The Cranberries lead singer was found dead in a London hotel last Monday.

Police quickly ruled out foul play, and a full inquest into the cause of death of Ms O’Riordan’s death will take place at Westminster Coroners Court in April.

Yesterday, thousands of people attended a public reposing of the the mother of three, at St Joseph’s Church in Limerick city.

Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the singer’s removal service in Ballyneety from 4pm-8pm.

A garda traffic management plan is to start from 2pm with funeral parking only permitted on approach roads to the village.

"The removal service and funeral of Dolores O’Riordan, formerly of the Cranberries will repose at Cross’s Funeral Home, Ballyneety, Co. Limerick on Monday, January 22,from 4pm to 8pm. 

"A large crowd is expected to attend and a traffic management plan will come to effect from 2pm today, Monday, January 22," Gardaí posted on the official Garda Facebook page.

"Motorists are advised to expect long delays on the R512 in the vicinity of Ballyneety Village and should use an alternative route if possible. 

"Outbound traffic on the R512 from Limerick City will be diverted onto the N24 Tipperary Road at The Four Elms Bar. Inbound traffic from Kilmallock and Bruff to Limerick City will be diverted to the R511 Fedamore Road at The Hunting Lodge Bar. All diversions will be signposted."

Ms O’Riordan’s remains will be brought from the funeral home to St Ailbe’s Church, Ballybricken at, 8pm for the singer’s funeral mass tomorrow at 11.30am.

"Funeral parking will not be permitted at Ballyneety Village but those attending will be permitted to park on approach roads to the village.

"A one-way system will operate on the approach road to St. Ailbe’s Church, Ballybricken, Co. Limerick on the evening of Monday January 22, and from 9am on Tuesday, January 23, for the Requiem Mass," Gardaí stated.
