Late surge sees house prices rise by €25,000 in 2005

The average price of a house in Ireland has increased by €25,000 over the past year, according to figures published today by permanent tsb.

The average price of a house in Ireland has increased by €25,000 over the past year, according to figures published today by permanent tsb.

The financial institution said prices increased by 9.3% in 2005, bringing the average cost of a house to just under €280,000.

Permanent tsb said prices surged in the second half of last year, increasing by a massive 6.7% between July and December, compared with 2.5% in the previous six-month period.

Kerry was found to have the highest increase, with prices going up by 15% during the year, while the smallest rises were in Leitrim, where prices went up just 2%.
