Last day of disrupted water supply for many

Much of the country has enjoyed normal water supplies overnight following the easing of restrictions for the New Year's Eve festivities.

Clare County Council however had to impose restrictions at midnight, planning to end them again at 10am today.

Elsewhere, restrictions will be brought back during the afternoon, but it is hoped it may be the final day of disrupted supply in some parts.

Dublin, however, will have restrictions imposed for the next week.

Meanwhile, the Restaurants Association of Ireland is demanding compensation from local authorities for the water shortages which it said led to a 70% loss in business.
