Large majority supports referendum on children’s rights
04/12/2006 - 08:24:59More than two thirds of voters support the Taoiseach's plan to hold a referendum to specifically recognise the rights of children, according to the latest opinion poll on the matter.
Sixty-eight per cent of respondents to The Irish Times/TNS mrbi poll say they would support the proposed changes, with just 16% opposing the move.
The Government is consulting other political parties and groups working with children before drawing up wording for the referendum, which is expected to be held in spring.
