Language schools hold emergency meeting over closures
An emergency meeting of language schools staff has heard calls for tighter regulations around the sector.
It follows the closure of Leinster College in Dublin last Tuesday.
Staff and students turned up that morning to find a note on the door, announcing that the premises had closed and would re-open again in a couple of weeks.
Seven other language schools have also closed in recent months, according to SIPTU. The union's education sector organiser Louise O'Reilly said both staff and students need protection from that kind of closure.
"There has been a large number of closures, and the fear is that there may be more. People need to know what their rights are in that situation.
"There are no industry norms … we should be able to establish those, [and] minimum levels of pay."
