Landing system fault causes Cork Airport disruption
There may be some flight disruptions at Cork Airport over the coming days - after a faulty landing system was shut down by safety authorities.
It's understood up to 17 flights into Cork Airport had to be diverted into other airports yesterday when problems began to arise with one of the airport's Instrument Landing Systems.
The device - known as an ILS - uses radio signals to guide planes landing in fog or low cloud.
However, over the past week, there has been occasional problems with the ILS system for one of Cork's runways and therefore if a plane attempts to land into this runway in bad weather - it will be diverted to another airport for safety purposes.
The Irish Aviation Authority says it hopes to have the system fixed within the coming days.
