A Labour TD has moved to defend the Government's job creation record.
Emmet Stagg has said they surpassed the target of creating 100,000 positions and instead reached 130,000.
The coalition has been criticised for taking the credit for creating the jobs.
However Deputy Stagg has said the increase in employment is something the Government is proud of: “The Government policy was put there so that jobs could be created.
“And they have been created and that has brought in an additional amount of money into the exchequer which allows now for services to be developed.
“We couldn’t develop them when we had no money, We are borrowing money because of the mess Fianna Fáil left behind them and they did leave a mess behind them there is no doubt about that.”
