Labour launch green economy plan with cycle to school scheme
Labour have launched their green economy plan - promising to create a €1bn green infrastructure fund.
Half of this would be spent on a better energy, warmer homes scheme that will retrofit 225,000 homes.
They have also proposed replacing the state bus fleet and introducing a cycle to school scheme.
Labour TD Kevin Humphreys has said it would work in a similar way to the cycle to work scheme and continues their investment in cycling infrastructure.
“Motorists have now become much more aware of cyclists and it has become a safer place for cyclists on the roads.
“If we want to tackle obesity in children it is best for them to cycle to work or to cycle to school and use the bikes.
“If we get the habit very early, we encourage a life-long commitment to cycling and I think that is beneficial.
“It will work similar to the cycle to work.”
