Kerry TD gives half his salary to pay for school's teacher

A parent is calling on politicians to follow the example of a TD who donated part of his salary to pay for a school teacher.
Fine Gael TD for Kerry South, Brendan Griffin, has given some €30,000, after tax, to Fybough National School in his South Kerry constituency, to allow it to privately employ a third teacher.
Since the Government increased the teacher-pupil ratio for small schools, the Department of Education ruled that Fybough would not have enough pupils to retain its three teachers and would have to lose one.
Deputy Griffin had been giving the money, which amounted to half of his salary after tax, to the Department of Finance, but has now given it to Fybough.
