Gardaí are appealing for information after a man made a suspicious approach on a child in the Kenmare area of Co Kerry yesterday.

At about 6.40pm, an 11-year-old boy was walking home from a friend's house when he was approached and offered sweets by a man in his late 30s or early 40s, who wanted him to get into a van.

The boy refused, and ran home, Radio Kerry reports.

The dark-coloured van had no windows on the side, and was fitted with a rear ladder.

Anyone with any information on the man or the van is asked to contact gardaí in Kenmare on 064 66 41177 or in Killarney on 064 6631222.
