Kenny to make televised address on EU referendum

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is to address the nation on the fiscal treaty referendum on Sunday evening.
The address has been pencilled into the schedule by RTÉ for 5.50pm.
The broadcast is to ensure balanced coverage of the referendum as Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams' speech at the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis will be broadcast live the evening before.
A Government spokesman said the length of the Taoiseach's address will be dictated by how long Mr Adams spends on the referendum, and that it was unique to have a party Ard Fheis just days before a vote.
Meanwhile Independent TD Shane Ross is introducing a bill in the Dáil tonight, which would change the law to allow the Government postpone the May 31 referendum on the fiscal treaty.
Deputy Ross said he expects the Government will vote the bill down.
But he insists it would be better to defer the vote, in light of political change in Europe and the outcome of the French and Greek elections.
"I just think this is genuinely unfair," he said.
"People are being insulted by the Government by being asked to vote in a vacuum of this sort.
"(French President Francois) Hollande said he will not pass this treaty until he gets a deal on growth that he wants.
"Why shouldn't we say… that we want to see what that deal on growth is?"
