Kenny rules out re-opening tribunal despite fresh Lowry revelations

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he has no intention of re-opening the Moriarty Tribunal in the wake of the fresh revelations surrounding former Minister Michael Lowry.

A taped conversation from 2004 between the now Independent TD and a land agent suggested that Mr Lowry did not declare a payment for tax.

Mr Lowry now says that payment was tax compliant.

In the Dáil, the Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said the revelations cast doubt on co-operation with the Moriarty Tribunal and on the truthfulness of evidence given before it.

But Mr Kenny said the tribunal reported two years ago and he rejected calls for a revisit of the issue by the inquiry.

Mr Kenny said: "I have no intention of re-opening the Moriarty Tribunal or any other tribunal that has reported to the house.

"This went on for long enough and the chairman dealt with the report and reported to the house here, and not only did the house pass a motion of censure on Deputy Lowry, it also enacted many of the recommendations of the Moriarty Tribunal.

"If you have got any information over there, then deal with it with the appropriate authorities."
