Kenny: No changes to pay deal despite IMF remarks

The Taoiseach has brushed off remarks from the IMF, which has warned Ireland about plans to restore public pay.

In its latest report on Ireland, the IMF said the return of public pay needs to be "gradual", with increased productivity as part of the deal.

The Taoiseach, however, said the latest proposals to restore public pay are already agreed, and will not be changed further.

Enda Kenny said he is hopeful the unions will sign up to the Lansdowne Road Deal, which will achieve much of what the IMF wants.

"Brendan Howlin has signed off on the public sector pay deal for the next three years, and that's been agreed and accepted by the Government," he said.

"I hope the unions will now move on to accept that also, and give industrial peace for the next three years - that's an important element of the growth in our economy."
