Kenny: EU leaders must be 'decisive'

22/10/2011 - 16:02:26
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said "decisiveness" must be shown by leaders at this weekend's Eurozone meeting in Brussels.

Mr Kenny, who is traveling to the gathering today, said it is important that political decisions are found that can be endorsed by member states on Wednesday.

His comments come as the Financial Times reports that the Greek economy has severely deteriorated over the past few months.

Today's report found that Greece will need more than €250bn in bailout money to survive, that is twice what the EU and IMF agreed just three months ago.

Meanwhile speaking in Dublin this afternoon, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore says he is hopeful that a resolution to the crisis will be found over the course of the coming days.

Mr Gilmore said: "What we have to concentrate on over the course of the weekend is to get a resolution of the problem and to get a resolution quickly.

"I was pleased that the finance ministers were able to reach an agreement on the dispersement of finance to Greece yesterday and I am hopeful now that progress will be made over the course of this evening and tomorrow and into the early part of next week that will find a resolution to the problem."
