The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has warned that the Government will not use the savings negotiatied on Ireland's bailout loans to soften December's Budget.
Mr Kenny said Ireland faces a difficult 18 months ahead, with one of the most hectic Dáil sessions in living memory due in the Autumn.
He said the Government will sit down in September and decide which programmes need to be shelved, which will be maintained, and which will be extended.
Speaking at MacGill Summer School in Glenties last night the Taoiseach warned that the Government "would not shirk its responsibilities".
