Kenny backs Gilmore's call for Taoiseach to resign

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has today backed Labour party calls for the Tánaiste to take over from Bertie Ahern as Taoiseach, in the wake of revelations at the Mahon Tribunal.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has today backed Labour party calls for the Tánaiste to take over from Bertie Ahern as Taoiseach, in the wake of revelations at the Mahon Tribunal.

It emerged this week that the Taoiseach's former partner Celia Larkin received a loan of IR£30,000 from a Fianna Fáil fundraising account to buy a home.

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore says that the Tánaiste should now approach Bertie Ahern and tell him that "the game is up".

He says it is now time for Brian Cowen to take power.

Meanwhile, Enda Kenny says Bertie Ahern has diminished the office of Taoiseach and it is time for him to go.
