Kenny attacks Government shortcomings in health sector

07/05/2006 - 10:08:44
Enda Kenny used his key note address at the party's Ard Fheis to launch a blistering attack on the Government's handling of the health crisis.

The Fine Gael leader told delegates last night that a Government that fails to attend to the health needs of the people does not deserve to be in power.

He went on to say that Fine Gael in power would eradicate the A and E crisis, tackle the rising rate of crime, and maintain a low tax economy.

The party pledged to establish a new food agency if returned to Government.

It said it is unacceptable that beef can be imported from Brazil, chicken from Asia and then be sold in the supermarket as being of Irish origin.

A new labelling regime is urgently required it said.

The agriculture spokesperson Denis Naughton, also announced that Fine Gael in office will put incentives in place to stimulate bio-fuel production.

He envisaged petrol containing a 5% ethanol mix and diesel containing a 2% mix.

He said that this would only require a change in legislation and would create a new market overnight.
