Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald is due to update Cabinet colleagues this morning on the revelations that GSOC accessed the records of journalists' phones.
It comes after it was revealed that two reporters had their phone records accessed by the Garda Ombudsman - over complaints about reports on the death of model Katy French.
New legislation brought in last year gave GSOC the same power as Garda Superintendents to access phone and email records.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny yesterday called for an overhaul of the legislation, saying it is valid in cases of national security, but not when it comes to the monitoring of journalists phones.
There has been criticism of GSOC since the revelations, with the Health Minister saying it would be "odd and sinister" if any Government body was accessing the phone records of journalists.
GSOC have so far refused to comment on the controversy.
