Justice Minister publishes Criminal Justice Bill

The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has published the Criminal Justice Bill for dealing with white collar crime.

The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has published the Criminal Justice Bill for dealing with white collar crime.

The Minister says the main purpose of the Bill is to reduce delays and facilitate prosecutions in these investigations.

It allows for a minimum of five years imprisonment on conviction and includes offences in banking, finance, company law, fraud, corruption and cyber crime.

The Bill gives the Gardaí new powers to compel people with relevant information to produce documents and answer questions.

It will also allow persons arrested and detained for questioning to be released and their detention suspended to allow further investigations be conducted during the suspension period.
