The Justice Minister could stop a controversial pick-up artist from entering the State in the interest of national security or public policy.
Self-styled dating guru Julien Blanc has been told he will not be allowed into Britain after an online petition drew more than 150,000 signatures.
His views have been condemned internationally as inciting violence against women.
While the Justice Department will not comment on individual cases, a spokesperson said it was possible to deny entry to the state.
An online petition here seeking to stop Mr Blanc from coming to Ireland to host a bootcamp in Dublin next summer has received more than 8,000 signatures.
The petition claims that "to allow this man into Ireland legitimises sexual assault and predation, and sends a message that women are playthings or objects without agency.
"Australia has already taken a stand by revoking his visa, let us demonstrate that we feel the same way about his message."
