Jury finds man guilty of Jason Doogue's murder

A man has been found guilty of murdering 22-year-old Jason Doogue in Co. Kildare on August 21, 2015.

James Lammon of Cardington Way in Athy denied shooting him after cycling up to him outside his friend’s house in the Greenhills area of Athy.

Most of the evidence against Mr Lammon was circumstantial but the jurors were told yesterday that a very clear picture would emerge when they put all of the pieces together.

In the end, it took them just two-and-a-half hours to agree that he was the masked gunman who cycled up to Jason Doogue and opened fire as he sat on a wall outside his friend’s house on Aug 21, 2015.

He was shot three times. The first one knocked him off the wall and the final bullet hit him in the back as he tried to run away.

The evidence may have been circumstantial but it all pointed to Jimmy Lammon.

Mr Lammon was heard threatening Mr Doogue earlier that day, the gun was found buried in a wooded area behind his house, his DNA was found on a top recovered near the River Barrow where the bike, which belonged to his nephew, was dumped.

The 44-year-old has been handed the mandatory life sentence for murder.
