Valentia Island in Co Kerry recorded its sunniest June in 74 years last month, with 265.0 hours of sunshine breaking the record last set in 1940, according to data from Met Éireann.
The meteorologists' monthly report for June also revealed that the sunniest day of the month was recorded in Belmullet Co Mayo, which enjoyed 15.8 hours of sunshine on June 17, its sunniest June day since 1995.
Meanwhile Fermoy in Co Cork scooped the prize for the top temperature after the mercury hit 26 degrees on June 18.
The number of dull days (less than 0.5 hours of sunshine) in the month ranged from just one at Dublin Airport - equalling its lowest number of dull days since 1986 (28 years) - to five at Casement Aerodrome.
Mean temperatures were all above average for the month, ranging from 13.4°C at Malin Head to 15.2°C at Shannon Airport.
The highest maximum temperature of 27.1°C was recorded at Newport, Co. Mayo on June 17.
The majority of weather stations also reported below average rainfall last month, with the Phoenix Park station reporting its lowest June rainfall in eight years with 29.6 mm.
