Judge due to sentence Cork woman for killing her son, 8

A Cork woman is due to be sentenced today for killing her eight-year-old son.

Diane Ward last week pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her son Anthony at their home at Harrison's Place in Charleville on September 3, 2012.

The 45-year-old was originally charged with the murder of her only son, but the DPP has accepted her plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Psychiatric evidence will be put before the court at Diane Ward's sentencing hearing today.
