Jill Meagher search: 41-year-old man arrested

Police in Australia have arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of Louth woman Jill Meagher.

A 41-year-old man from Coburg - a suburb in north Melbourne - is being questioned by detectives from the Homicide Squad Missing Persons Unit.

The 29-year-old from Drogheda disappeared after a night out with colleagues on Friday evening.

Yesterday, police appealed to six people seen in CCTV footage which showed Jill's last movements to come forward.

They said they were particularly interested in speaking to a man who wore a blue hoodie and jeans, and seemed to double back on his movements.

ABC News reporter Lisa Macksimovic said: "Police say they have arrested a 41-year-old man from Coburg which is an inner north suburb of Melbourne not far from Brunswick, where Jill Meagher disappeared from.

"They are currently questioning the man at their headquarters. Charges have not yet been laid and they (haven't said) whether this man is one of the people on the CCTV footage that they released yesterday."
