Irishman shot in Bolivia to be laid to rest today

30/04/2009 - 07:21:39
The Irish man shot dead by Bolivian police two weeks ago is due to be laid to rest in Co. Tipperary today.

Twenty-four-year-old Michael Dwyer was shot dead at a hotel in Santa Cruz along with two other men.

The Bolivian authorities say all three were involved in a plot to assassinate President Evo Morales and were killed after a shootout.

The Government is pushing for an international investigation, however, as there appears to be little evidence of any gunfight.

Mr Dwyer's family also insist that he would not have been involved in any assassination plot.

The 24-year-old is due to be buried following 11am mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Terryglass this morning.
