Irish Water puts onus on homeowners to find leaks

Homeowners could be facing further hefty bills as Irish Water warns that faulty pipes will have to be identified within a year in order to qualify for free repairs.

The company are advising that faulty pipes need to be found within a year, after which the homeowner will have to pay for the cost of fixing pipes themselves.

The Government has estimated that one in ten homes will require repairs to leaky pipes and has set aside €30m to fund repairs.

The fund will only cover repairs to pipes between the meter on the pavement and the front door of the property. Damaged pipes within private homes will be the responsibility of the owner.
