Final preparations are being made for the second Irish Defence Forces deployment to war-torn Syria.

130 troops are travelling to the Golan Heights as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission.

The Defence Minister Alan Shatter and the Defence Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle were at Stephens Barracks in Kilkenny today to review the 44th Infantry Group.

Over the next two weeks 130 troops will be deployed to the Golan Heights region of Syria for a six month tour of duty, where the conditions are hostile.
