Irish tourists homeward bound after Alps snowstorm

More than100 Irish tourists who were caught in a snowstorm in France are safely on board a flight to Dublin tonight.

The 147 passengers were among thousands of holidaymakers forced to sleep in makeshift shelters in the Alps last night as the roads became blocked.

Tour operator Crystal Ski says a direct Chambery to Dublin flight has just departed carrying those affected by the unprecedented weather conditions.

The firm has apologised to its customers and says it appreciates their "frustration".
