An Irish skier has died following an avalanche in the Swiss Alps.

An Irish skier has died following an avalanche in the Swiss Alps.

According to the AFP news agency, a search only got under way today because of poor weather conditions.

The 27-year-old Irish cross-country skier, who resided near Zurich, died in an avalanche not far from the town of Realp in central Switzerland.
