An Irishman has died after being struck by lightning while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

An Irishman has died after being struck by lightning while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The man, aged in his early 40s, was leading a group of climbers up the mountain when the incident happened earlier today.

It is believed that the group were just days into the charity climb.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the man's family.
