The Irish Cancer Society has called for urgent action to tackle the disease in disadvantaged communities.

The Irish Cancer Society has called for urgent action to tackle the disease in disadvantaged communities.

The society this morning launches a new five-year strategy called 'Towards a Future without Cancer'.

It said progress has been made in treating and diagnosing cancer, but it is worried about an emerging social divide with death rates in poorer communities double those of better-off areas.
