Irish Cancer Society urges government to follow Australian plans

The Irish Cancer Society is urging the government here to follow the Australian example of selling cigarettes in plain packaging.
The move has been upheld in Australia's highest court, despite protests from the tobacco industry.
Here, the ICS says cigarettes that are for sale in plain packaging will prevent all smokers, particularly children, from being influenced by advertising.
It's pointing out that Ireland's rate of lung cancer has now exceeded the rate of breast cancer in women.
