Ireland's army should have a dedicated Cyber Defence Unit to prevent online attacks on state bodies and multinational companies, Fianna Fáil said today.
The party is appealing to the Minister for Defence to consider the idea.
Spokesman Sean O'Fearghail is citing potential risks to consumers if cyber criminals gain access to sensitive information stored by government and state bodies.
He also thinks we need to send out a strong message on the issue, considering our business links to multinationals like Google, Facebook and Twitter.
