Ireland's newest TV station to switch on today
Ireland's newest television channel will begin broadcasting later this evening.
UTV Ireland will open at 7.25pm tonight with a short programme 'Welcome to UTV Ireland' about the last year of setting up the channel.
It will be followed by an hour-long episode of Emmerdale and a documentary from Pat Kenny looking ahead to 2015.
The station will be the new home to Emmerdale and Coronation Street, as well as The Graham Norton Show.
“We will open at around 19.25 with ‘A Welcome to UTV Ireland, which is just a small programme/film that we’ve made about the last year,” said UTV Ireland head of channel Mary Curtis.
“We have an hour-long episode of Emmerdale, and then we have Pat Kenny’s return to television with a hour-long documentary where he looks to 2015 and takes an overview of politics, sport, entertainment and also speaks to some influential people who have a view as to what will happen in 2015.
“Our news, which is a hour and a half, and is they keystone of our schedule throughout the day.
“From April we will be broadcasting Pat Kenny’s programme, we have Rare Breed and Lesser Spotted Journeys, again, which are programmes that will play in peak time during the week.
“So it’s a mixture – a multi-genre channel, with a mixture of entertainment, drama and current affairs is how we would position it.”
The new TV station has facilities in Cork 96FM’s Wellington Road base and will carry the new 20-second spot created by digital agency, Simply Zesty.
Chief Executive of Cork’s 96FM and C103, Kieran McGeary told RadioToday: “Cork’s 96FM has marketed extensively during 2014 so running a television campaign is a logical progression. We are delighted with the results that Simply Zesty achieved.
“As well as re-enforcing our own undeniable Cork credentials, I think it’s great to have Cork portrayed on a national platform.”
