Ireland sees rise in number of asylum-seekers

The number of people seeking asylum in Ireland jumped 40% between January and August.

The Irish Refugee Council is putting the increase down to unrest in many places across the world.

It is the first time for over a decade that the number of asylum applications has grown, and the Department of Justice is reportedly expecting the trend to continue for the rest of 2014.
