Ireland fourth in EU waste production table

Ireland is producing the fourth highest amount of waste per capita in the European Union.
Some 636kg of municipal waste were generated per person in 2010, compared to an EU average of 502kg.
Of that waste, 57% was sent to landfill, 35% recycled and 4% incinerated.
Just 4% of the waste we produced that year was composted, according to new figures from Eurostat.
Cyprus had the highest amount of waste generated at over 700kg per person, while values of below 400kg were recorded in Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia and Latvia.
