Ireland doubles its number of billionaires

A resurgence in manufacturing has generated almost half of today’s 31 new entrants in the Sunday Times Irish Rich List.

The list also reveals that the number of Ireland’s billionaires has almost doubled.

The fastest fortune was made by Limerick-born and Silicon Valley based brothers, Patrick and John Collison who own online payment company, Stripe.

Denis O’Brien is the list’s biggest riser adding €1.4bn to his fortune, while the list of Ireland’s millionaires aged 30 or under sees One Direction's Niall Horan enter at a value of €6m.

Colm Murphy, the Irish Rich List compiler, said the increase in the number of billionaires in Ireland is almost at the same level as it was at the height of the Celtic Tiger.
