The PSNI is appealing for information following two separate pipe bomb attacks in the Waterside area of Derry in the early hours of this morning.

The PSNI is appealing for information following two separate pipe bomb attacks in the Waterside area of Derry in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood a pipe bomb-type device exploded outside a house at Lapwing Way at around 1.30am. Four adults and a child, who were in the house at the time, were not injured and no damage was caused.

At around the same time, in nearby Lincoln Court, a similar device exploded outside a house, damaging the front door.

Four adults who were in the house at the time were not injured.

Police believe the two attacks were linked and are treating them as hate crimes.

The remains of the two devices have been taken away for forensic examination.
