An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a plane crash in County Waterford yesterday evening.

An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a plane crash in County Waterford yesterday evening.

The single-seater BD5 aircraft experienced technical difficulties after leaving Waterford airport shortly after 6.30pm yesterday evening.

The man had been bound for Shannon Airport to attend the Foynes air show, and crashed near Clonea Upper while trying to turn back for Waterford.

It is not clear yet what exactly caused the crash.

The remains of the pilot were removed from the scene last night.

The organisers of the Foynes air show, which the pilot was en route to, expressed "their deepest condolences" to the pilot's family.

The said the Air Show would go ahead at the request of the family, and be dedicated to the pilot.
