INTO to discuss strike over decrepit school buildings

11/11/2003 - 08:17:57
The Irish National Teachers Organisation is due to meet later this week to discuss a campaign of industrial action in protest at sub-standard primary school buildings.

The organisation is expected to sanction a series of rolling one-day stoppages that would affect up to 30 primary schools nationwide.

The INTO is seeking €300m in government funding for primary school building projects next year and a guarantee of a similar amount for a further four years.

The union said the schools involved in its planned strike were among the worst in the county in terms of overcrowding, poor heating and decrepit buildings.
